Britain Prime Minister Rishi Sunak\u2019s defense for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the House of Commons has grabbed worldwide attention. Sunak made headlines after he shut down Pakistan-origin MP Imran Hussain and openly disagreed \u201cwith the characterisation\u201d of the Indian Prime Minister on the issue of 2022 Gujarat riots. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hussain was highlighting the claims made in the BBC documentary that the FCDO, UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, knew the \u201cextent of\u00a0Narendra Modi\u2018s involvement\u201d in the riots.\u00a0Sunak\u00a0responded by saying that the UK government\u2019s position has always been clear and hasn\u2019t changed. \u201cOf course, we don\u2019t tolerate persecution where it appears anywhere,\u201d he said. Meanwhile, India\u2019s Ministry of Affairs Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi took a strong stance on the subject at a weekly briefing in New Delhi, and said that the documentary is a \u201cpropaganda piece\u201d which was designed to highlight a \u201cdiscredited narrative\u201d, reported The Indian Express.
