Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas is preparing to make a comeback following the Covid-19 shutdown.
Upon joining the Caribbean International fleet in 2023, the ship will be the first Icon-class ship and will have a volume of 250,800 gross tonnes. This makes it bigger than the Oasis-class Wonder of the Seas, which has a volume of 236,857 GT. As part of Royal Caribbean’s new Icon class, the cruise ship is built by the star shipbuilder Meyer Turku.
Characteristics
Propulsion systems are eco-friendly, which is a major new feature of the ship. As a first for Royal Caribbean, the ship will use LNG to power itself as well as fuel cell technology to power its fuel cells. Additionally, ship-to-shore connections and heat recovery systems are being used.
365 meters or 1,198 feet will be its total length. There will be a maximum capacity of 7,600 guests on board the ship. A five-year research and development process culminated in this new ship.
A total of 20 decks will be on the cruise ship, of which 18 will be guest decks. Seven pools, nine whirlpools, and six record-breaking waterslides will be available on the ship. There will also be eight neighborhoods on the megaship, including five new ones: AquaDome, Thrill Island, Chill Island, Surfside, and The Hideaway. A total of 7,800 passengers will be accommodated in 2,805 staterooms. With a 1,700-square-foot space, the Ultimate Family Townhouse can accommodate up to eight passengers and features an in-suite slide, a cinema room, karaoke, and a private entrance to Surfside.
A total of 2,350 crew members will be on board the vessel. There are also six record-breaking slides and six additional pools on the ship, including the largest pool in the sea and the largest water park in the sea. Within the AquaDome, Sunset Corner Suites and Panoramic Ocean View cabins will be introduced.

Additionally, the ship has an Aqua Theater inside a glass dome. At night, the dome will be a restaurant. During the day, it will be in a creative area.
